Default 2011 Exec - trailer module and LED trailer road lamps

Hi guys

I'm looking to buy a new-to-me caravan which has LED road lamps - Side/Tail Brake/Inds/Fog

I'm concerned that the Volvo trailer module that I have already fitted may not be compatible with LED Lamps on the trailer. (I fitted it in April 2016)

https://www.volvopartshop.com/13-pin...14-16522-p.asp

Can anyone advise what I will need to do to make this work or whether there is a later model of trailer module (and the relevant part numbers please) that can handle LED road lamps on the trailer?

Cheers

Dave

The only "compatibility" issue that would happen if the current draw of the LED trailer lamps is lower than expected is:
  1. The "Trailer Lamps" lamp on the dash won't flash when the indicators flash
  2. The rear fog lamp won't disable when the trailer is connected - if you even have this feature enabled

That's it.
As far as I know, there is no impact on DSTC having a trailer detected or not.
The auto levelling suspension is purely hydraulic and doesn't give a hoot if a trailer is connected.

So honestly, I wouldn't worry

But if you want it to know a trailer is there, fit some extra LED position lamps to increased the current draw - or fit a tungsten filament buld on the taillights somewhere to increase the current draw. Or a resistor. Or a fridge.... anything to get it over the threshold, IF the current lamps are below the "trailer detected" threshold.

Plug in and find out....

My 2003 XC90 with Volvo tow bar and module is fine with LED lamps, but you lose the "tell tale" on the dash when indicating. My 2016 XC60 is also okay, but I did have problems when I used a non-genuine 13 to 7 pin adapter. With the genuine Volvo one supplied with the towbar - all is well.

As Swiss said, if you do have problems you can fit "dummy load" resistors - but I think you will be fine.

My 2013 XC70 with the Volvo towbar and electrics never had any problem with the Swift 580 2016 model I had which had LED lights all round. The car system detects if any lights are out or not working but there are no sound warnings when hooked up to the van unless there is a problem and it will then tell you on the dash.

And I forgot one more thing:
Automatic disabling of the rear parking sensors when the trailer is detected
