Default Coolant temperature sensor

Today I checked the sensor, it read 2.8 ohms with a very cold engine, is this ok? Maybe I need to do the leak back test before I change the sensor ?

It depends on what the ambient temperature was and the setting your multimeter was on.
2.8 ohms isn't a credible figure.

Thanks for the reply, I used the 200 ohm setting and the temperature was around 20c, also is the fan meant to start and run for 5-7 minutes after switching off.

Ok, well your fan behaviour isn't normal.
It sounds to me like the coolant sensor is defective and returning an extremely high (and inaccurate) temperature reading meaning that the fan comes on as a precaution.

I might have one spare you can have for free if you cover postage.
What's your 17 digit chassis number?

You need genuine part number 8653103 or quality aftermarket equivalent.
They can be cheap though as shown here so may be just as cheap to source brand new yourself?

Default Auto-doc !!

Well I have ordered from auto-doc but used the ES branch, what a disaster!! 13th November and STILL waiting, it appears that the Wallys here are only pass on to Germany the order ! 1-2 days delivery they state, not even in Barcelona at the moment, informed them today that I will not accept the package when it ever arrives. I will now drive 115 km to the Volvo agent and buy tomorrow, I think I should have bought a Renault !! (Urgh!)

At last the sensor has arrived and fitted, it helped a bit, but a very long turn over before deciding to start, even when hot it is never instant, never had a common rail diesel before, never even had newer type car until now! Can anyone tell me the procedures to use to find this problem please, there are NO fault codes showing . (V70 2003 Diesel Auto )
