Winding down the side windows as a solution on freezing cold mornings?
I don't think so. Kettle of lukewarm water all round and no chicken wire for me. |

Got a heated screen on my Skoda Superb and it is excellent not only for defrosting the screen on cold mornings but also to de-mist as others have mentioned.
Look at buying a used V60 and the Winter Pack is a must for me along with the Driver Assistance Pack |

Does the Skoda have the same visible metal wires as the Volvo screen ?

I've never owned a car with a heated screen, but I've driven loads that had/have.The early ones as fitted to Escorts I thought were horrendous and were like looking through a wire fence! However time/technology has moved on and in more modern cars I never notice the wires. As long as the screen was covered on the car insurance[replacements are very expensive]I'd have no issue buying a car with a heated one fitted, but at the end of the day it's each to their own isn't it?

Heated screen
Love mine!! BUT, when I drive off how I wish that I had specified heated steering wheel as well. It takes ages for that to warm up.

I too am defiantely in the heated front screen is wonderful camp . My first was ina MK2 mondeo & cleared the mirrors as well . The wires were only evident is certain lights & never distracting . I have seen other makers efforts & not every screen is as inobtrusive . Also during my day job of MOT tester , i get to peer through many screens and I am amazed at the variations of quality is see ( literally ) through . Just wish my v70 had the screen from my mondeo fitted & YES I know it would not fit and leak in .

After sitting in my vehicle this morning watching the breath of the dogs in the back beating the blowers attempt to demist the screen, (hadn't put the heater in as per my previous post on this subject as I didn't know I was going out) I wish to modify my statement "Can't stand heated screens."
I can't stand the fine wires which make the lights at night fizz like fireworks. I didn't know that VW group have a different way of doing things. I have often thought that in this day and age there must be a better way than running wires across your vision. I will be interested to go and have a look at one when I get the chance. Funny thing is I was sitting in my VW T4 Transporter, sadly much too old for things like heated windows, doesn't have air con either which is a great demister. Still thankful it has a heater which splutters into some life after about 8 miles. Perhaps I should put an old parrafin stove in the back!
