Default New V90 D5 vs 850 T5 (1996) drag race

This is a rather interesting race:

235bhp V90 D5 vs 225bhp 850 T5....

I wounder how many miles that 850 had on. If it was new like the v90 it might have been closer on the first race?

No ,,, An old volvo gets faster the older it gets !

these new models with their 2 lite turbo petrol engines T2 120 bhp T3 150 bhp T4 180 bhp do not compare to the 20 year old S/V40 2 litre turbo low boost 160 bhp and high boost 200 bhp ...

How can the T2 ( turbo ) be 15 bhp less than the 20 year old 2 litre non turbo petrol in the S?V40 ? well when you drive one you find it acts like a diesel , plenty of low rpm power but fades away to nothing after 3500 rpm .

I really like the new V90, would love one. It'll be a few years before I can afford one.
Hopefully by then the T8 will be a reasonable proposition, I bet it won't be long before a full electric version is available.

The 850 is a lighter car so not surprised it beat the V90 in a rolling race.
My V70 TDI despite having 140 bhp compared to my D5 XC70 2wd 195bhp was just as quick as the D5. The newer cars are a lot heavier and given the emitions control do far less to the gallon than the old. I would see 47 mpg running locally out of the TDI while the D5 gives me 38/42 dependant on how quickly I need to get there.

Paul.?
