Silicone hose's
Like me my 940 is getting on in years, the car's 22, I'm 72, just fifty years between us, (just wish I was as good as the Volvo) Anyway I've had the car for two years now and I'm assuming that ALL the under bonnet rubber hose's are the originals (except for the PVC system) although I don't have any problems I was thinking of replacing all the hose's, its a automatic 1996 940 LPT with the B230FK engine, I would very much like to replace with the blue silicone hose's, but can not find a complete kit as such, and. from what I have seen for sale the price's are astronomical, does anyone know a good supplier at sensible price's. David.

What is wrong with renewing with original hoses, they have a percentage of silicone in them...they're not pure rubber !!!

I'm not keen on the blue boy racer look and I also remember someone saying they can slip off rad stubs etc. Not sure if true.
I have stuck to genuine Volvo hoses. Mines a same year and engine and the turbo cooling hoses were both around£30 each and top rad hose around £17 from memory. Need to do the back rear heater hose ones at some point but currently look good. James Last edited by volvo always; Nov 20th, 2017 at 17:47. |

Do88 do a complete set that looks like it is designed to full race spec (they are THICK!) - and they are available in blue I think, though i got black.
Did mine a couple of months back and no problems/issues with repeated removal and refitting, quality product. |

To be honest David, i'm with Jon on this one. Yes, the blue silicone hoses look nice but only if you're going to cruises and showing off the engine bay and it's an expensive way of replacing hoses that are still available in standard black from Volvo.
Once upon a time you could buy "Engine Dress-Up Kits" that contained lengths of stainless steel overbraid and custom ends that were a combined Jubilee clip and braid finisher to fit over your existing hoses to make them look different, they don't appear to be available except for small diameter hoses now though.

Maybe this stuff is what you're after. With a couple of brand new stainless jubilee clips it'll look rather good I expect. Too pricey for me though.

If you are using silicone hoses , always replace hose clamps of any make with Norma clamps GBS range , wide band , spreads the clamping force over greater area

Hmm. Tricky this. I've been rummaging around the interworld web net thing, and I can't find anything big enough for a radiator hose.

Oh, go one then.
I'll get some, it'll clearly improve things - in thirty one years it's only had the hoses replaced once ! I new I was missing a trick, same for all my cars - silicone hoses = improved performance. Jon. P.S forgive the cynicism. Last edited by Prufrock; Nov 21st, 2017 at 08:02. Reason: P.S |
