Changed intercooler on D5 185
Swapped out a good intercooler for my 2006 D5 185 today.
it now seems to run a lot sweeter as it would boost on and off and would seemingly go into some sort of limp mode with no lights. On occasions the "engine service required" would go on and off. After 10 milesthw same message reappeared. Will this take a little time to learn to run OK or will I have to do a little more investigation? Thanks SC |

tcv turbo control valve .swirl flaps also need checking if you have them. go to an independant volvo garage or ask if a forum member near you can help. most will help you if they can..variable vanes are part of your turbo

Codes read of my torque Pro obd
P0234 Turbo overboost condition P2004 I take manifold runner control stuck bank1 P2A00 O2 sensor circuit Bank 1 sensor 1 I think these are the stored logs. The more I have used it today the more it has run as usual except it judder a bit sometimes. Would the ecu have to relearn the cars running as I think it has ran like this for a long time? SC |

With those codes and the 185 Eu4 engine, I think I'd start by looking at the swirl flap control. However, it would best if you can get the codes read by someone with the Volvo diagnostic tool VIDA / DiCE.
AFAIK, just replacing the intercooler shouldn't require the ECU to re-learn.

I have vida dice but have not managed to set it up on my Windows 10 laptop yet.
The flaps still operate but what code says about them? SC |

P2004 looks to refer to the swirl flaps (or Intake Manifold Air Control system). This article about the generic P2004 code may help:
https://autoservicecosts.com/obd2-codes/p2004/ and this one about the P2A00 code may also be an issue with the fuel/air mixture or ratio that could be a result of malfunctioning swiirl flaps: https://autoservicecosts.com/obd2-codes/p2a00/ If the swirl flaps are not opening correctly (and there's no where for the air to go), then I suppose it's possible an over boost condition could be detected by the MAP sensor if the VNT can't be backed off enough. Spending some time getting VIDA/DiCE to work might be a good starting point as the generic codes can be a bit misleading. The problem with diagnostics codes is that they don't necessarily point to a particular device or component at fault but indicate a set of conditions or symptoms that exist.
