Probably just a few months. Certainly not years.

That should be ok , but fuel does go off a lot quicker than it used to , the active spirit tends to evaporate off a lot quicker now.
do you find when you have left the car for a week or two you have to wind it over on the starter whilst the pump refills the carb float chamber?

A little, it was worse before I replaced the rubber petrol pipes near the tank. I had to do this on the other 340 (GLE) as well. My friend had to do this on his 340 GL too.

Yes, I saw that. How about my classic Mini? Not that I'm using at the moment. It doesn't even have an unleaded conversion!

The old mini together with volvos up to 1974 are a classic case of valves seating directly on the cast iron head , They have had Unleaded for some decades now so most will have had new seats by now if they do any kind of mileage . Just make sure the rubber hoses are renewed with current hose to be safe . Alloy heads from the period will be ok as they came with good quality valve seats to start with .

Super unleaded will remain capped at 5% ethanol (E5) and that will be much better for both your 340 and your Mini as it's 98 octane so less chance of pre-ignition/pinking/detonation or any of the other names it's known by. It will also give you better economy/power as the timing can be set to standard instead of retarded for 95 unleaded.

Like Clan says, the rubber components are the ones that you need to watch out for, primarily the hoses which (from what i can ascertain) need to be R9 rated to cope with increased ethanol content.

Over time, you may find the diaphragm in the fuel pump and/or the fuel pump needs replacing as a result of the ethanol in the fuel.

I've never touched the timing on the 340, not even looked at how to do that.

I do have a new 340 1.4 fuel pump in stock though!

Might pay to investigate that then, not sure when electronic ignition was first fitted on the 340 but if the timing is out due to wear and/or incorrectly set points gap/dwell then it will run rough.
