Great write up, did you have to remove the airbox to top up ?

Thanks
I removed the air box and removed the Maf sensor and housing from the air box cover (two torx screws same size as the air box cover handily enough) and reattached it to the air inlet hose where it would sit normally thus allowing me to connect the electrical sensor cable. I just didn't fancy having any warning lights on starting her up without Maf sensor cable connected. This meant I had all the space I needed! Yes it meant unfiltered air, but for a few minutes at a time, no issues. I suppose I could have attached a piece of cloth to the end of the Maf housing and used an elastic band to keep it over the end to act as a temporary filter. Next time perhaps. I travelled to London and back from Yorkshire, it was silky cog changes all the way. So far so good with Mannol ATF JWS 3309, 528 miles since job done.

I've been researching this issue to ensure that the T6 i've just picked up will continue to be as great as it is now!
75k on the clock FSH. One forum i read suggests that '03 T6 doesn't use/need to use JWS 3309 ATF - but that i can use Dexron III... 1- Can anyone clarify that's the case? 2- T6 4 speed box is made from chocolate so i should do this ASAP. cheers, |

Mannol ATF JWS 3309
Hi I don't know anything about the petrol model gearboxes, other than there are tad bit more delicate. I'm sure someone far cleverer than me will post a reply. This thread was really all about a cheaper alternative to Volvo, Mobil 1, Toyota JWS 3309 rated oil which by all accounts are the same thing.
But I deinately advocate a transmission oil change at this age and mileage in the T6 to put your mind at rest. Good luck. Kaz |

Transmission Fluid
I have used this successfully on a MY01 petrol XC. I would not use Mobile1 it is no longer 3309 because the original specification is based on a mineral oil base and Mobile changed their's to fully synthetic. No matter what you use it is important to have a working Vida+DiCE and reset the counter in the TCM, so that the modules knows the condition of the fluid, since it makes adjustments to the way the transmission changes based on the age and condition of the fluid. For the same reason, the adaptions should be run. My experience of doing this multiple times that resetting the adaptions is not as easy as described in Vida.

Good work Kaz. Nice write up. I use the Mannol myself on my AW-55 and TF-80 D5's and mixed it with genuine no problem. I'm no expert, but your plan of a sump dump every 10k along with your regular service is exactly what I do. You've got the undertray off anyway, so only adds 1/2hr to the job. Maybe an investment in VIDA would be good so you can set the level accurately and reset the transmission counter. VIDA is just a great toy to have anyway for lots of reasons!
