Tailgate Lock Switch
After a few years of suffering from the rear tailgate switch not operating correctly I have replaced it with a new one. The switch is built in with the unit that houses the number plate lights and costs about £100. The old switch was taking many pushes to operate and I feared it could fail and leave the tailgate locked and unable to open. For others who suffer with a similar lock problem I found it a fairly straightforward DIY job.

similar problem - v60 tailgate.
Hi
I have a 64 plate V60 and a similar problem, though I took my V60 in for a service at a volvo dealership a few weeks ago, tailgate lock worked fine before it went in, then had a phonce call to say it wasn't working. I've done some research and the closest I've come to solving it is: the tailgate lock may be linked to the glvoe compartment, and some volvo models have a system where if one is locked the other is locked. another thread i read said something about pressing the 'tailgate unlock' button the drivers door quickly twice can solve the problem. I've tried this, and fiddled around with the other, nothing worked yet. Being quoted in excess of £400 for a new lock (fitted) but, luckily the dealership agreed to split the cost as neither of us know how/why it happened. |

It sounds like the same problem I have with my 14 XC60 tailgate. The switch works intermittently. The dash opener and the remote work perfectly.
I am a reasonable diy’er and am encouraged to hear that it is not too difficult to replace. Do I need any fancy software re-sets or is it simply a case of removing and replacing the switch and number plate light panel? If it is feasible to do it, does anyone know the part number.? |
