MOT outcome 2006 V70 D5 AWD - did its job

Hi to all,

So my V70 went for the MOT yesterday, the first since I bought her in July last year.
Failed on offside break hose being damaged but thats all. For a 14 year old car I'm very impressed.
IMO this shows the value of the yearly MOT which i'm sure is seen by some as a pain in the arse but its there to help keep the car safe and roadworthy and by finding the damaged brake hose its lived up to its purpose.

I've had a couple of other jobs done as well.
Front brake discs and pads replaced as well as the front and rear vacuum engine mounts. I did a vacuum test a while ago and found both mounts leaking.

Still loving the car with a few more jobs to do in the summer including changing rear discs, pads and handbrake shoes. Change auto transmission fluid and change rear coils as they are a bit corroded.

That’s great news! I don’t think there is a person in the U.K. that thinks an MOT finding damage to your brake lines is a bad cost for an MOT.

What people resent is being told your cat is damaged and will cost £900 whilst you step outside to see all the airliners taking people abroad for £29 with fuel that is duty free.

I have been using the same MOT testing centre for decades, even before I got my V70. All they do is vehicle testing.. they are not a garage so have no incentive to fail a car in order to get the business to fix it.

My 1999 V70 passed its MOT with a few advisories just the other week. I was very anxious but that's just my current mental health issue in dealing with the fear of the car failing and having to find someone to do the work for me in short notice. Touch wood it's not failed one in the past 10 years, and then it was just tyres and drop links

My car went in for its MOT recently & its approaching 14 years old now. It failed on one of the steering rack boots being split & one of the exhaust hangars was broken, so the exhaust wasn't fully secure.

I didn't hear any rattles coming from the exhaust though pre-MOT (I've had a broken bracket before & that you could hear as clear as day).

I guess there's a lot you can see/tell from a car being on a ramp. Apart from these items, there were no other advisories. It cost £70 in total to fix what was wrong, including the MOT itself... I thought that was reasonable . A financed/leased car of the same size would cost much more than that per month & that's how I look at it. I understand that there comes a point when a car is no longer financially viable to repair, but I hope to keep mine going as long as I can.
