Oil change on 08 V70

Just done an oil change on my 2014 V70 D5. Its not seen a dealer since Dec 2016. Nothings ever broke, and year 3,4 and 5 services have been done by me. This time rather than mess around I filled the engine straight away with 5.7litres of oil. A 4 litre can of Castrol 0w30 + a 1.7 litre measured amount of the same oil.
In previous years I have added about 5 litres then topped up a couple of times to give the electronic dash dip a mid-point reading.
Now the electronic dash dip is now showing oil level to be full. Would this indicate I had 0.8 litres of old oil still in the engine when I topped up ( don't see how as car was level at draining) or will the software be correct to identify that 5.7 litres is the new Max.?

As far as I know you can’t fix the rising oil level issue. You can only fix the point at which the engine management light comes on.

When I put 5.7L in, after say 10 months I would have a few hundred millilitres additional build up in oil level due to DPF regen, and the engine management light would then come on. Let’s say for arguments sake this happened was at 5.10L

Hence, when I just added 5.5L and still had the few hundred millilitres additional build up after 10 months motoring the level got to 5.8L and the engine management light did not come on.

volvo did a lot of software work to get around the rising oil problem , as for it not to be a problem in between services ..
If you have a serious rise in level there will be some other underlying problem .

Just changed my oil and filter with 5.5 ltrs of 0w30 oil and although I have not done many miles since, theres been no problem.
I cant say the same for the front left abs sensor which I changed at the same time because my dealer told me it was causing a problem with the instrument panel abs light showing intermittently.
Having read about the front reluctor rings on this XC70 being very prone to excessive rusting, it looks like I have another job pending.
Luckily the new sensor wasnt expensive.

While rusting on the reluctor ring teeth can make a false profile which introduces inaccuracy into the ABS working, the killer effect of rust is when it is between the ring and the shaft. The rust expands as it increases and the force is irresistible to the point where it bursts the ring and creates a very much larger gap between the teeth where it has fractured. At that point the ABS will not function as it seems to see a stutter in the motion of the revolving ring and this is interpreted as a stuttering wheel movement which activates the ABS erratically.

Removing a cracked ring is easy because it can easily be split into two. Replacing it with a new one requires the shaft to be cleaned thoroughly and the replacement ring heated in an oven to expand it so that it easily slips onto the shaft and then contracts to hold firmly in place.

Perhaps someone can enlighten me. Do Volvo sell the rings separately or only prefixed to the shaft which has to be replaced. On some other marques this is the case but you can buy the separate rings on the after market. If they were stainless steel they would solve a lot of problems in the long term but I've never come across stainless versions.
