Default Tailgate question

Long story but I need new fencing boards , because of the virus there’s only one guy working at the suppliers.
The boards are 3.6m long, I measured the car & I can get 2.5m inside.
The question is will I do any damage to the tailgate driving with the excess wood sticking out of the car ? Ie will the motor in the tailgate try & open even though I’ve tied the tailgate to the excess boards?
I would be travelling less than 2 miles.

A good question.
It was something I was tempted to do but decided to pay for delivery.
Hopefully someone will come up with the answer.

This is not something I have tried myself but I seem to remember that if you close the boot on something and the boot mechanism detects it while closing, dosent the boot stop, open very slightly and then stop again rather than opening all the way again?
Im sure you can also stop the boot any time while it is closing by pressing the button on the boot too.
What I dont know is what the boot will do while you are driving and bumps move it about, whether or not it may try to open or close again under the movement of the boot.

I've done it and nothing bad happened. The motor does not try and run.

Get a luggage strap and push it into the boot lock to mimic the striker and to fool the boot into thinking it is shut. Then manually pull the boot down using the strap. Tighten the strap around the wood sticking out the back really tight. It will hold the boot down firmly against the wood. It should be pressing against the boot lock so as not to damage the paint. If it touches then use an old towel to protect. When home just click the boot open button and the strap will pop out and the boot open. You might need to open and close a few times before the boot works out the upper and lower position and recalibrates itself.

Remember though essential travel only. If stopped you will need to be comfortable that you can persuade the police why this wood is essential.

Deploy your tow bar and than use a ratchet strap to attach to boot handle and the tow bar to secure boot. (use the button to close the lid shut to you the amount you want)

You can also pull the tailgate down by hand.
Do it gently, not faster than when it closes by itself.
