If you remove the large rear box and replace with a straight through “absorption” type silencer like mine it ends up having a nice tone, certainly not too intrusive at low revs/load but it does get a bit vocal on full throttle/full load. You’ve either got to get it up on stands and have a go yourself or head to a friendly exhaust place and see what they can do for you. 👍🏻

Hi. Started fitting my Jetex today. I work slowly!
Got most of the old pipe off. Just got the bolts on the clamp at the cat-end to go. These are being stubborn. Also a 10mm socket doesn't want to go on & an 11mm is too big. Is it a 10mm and just rust has enlarged it anyone? ^^clicky link for full size. Ta.

Managed to get under the car and have a measure!! My rear silencer is actually a 14 inch by 4 inch. So much for my memory!! 63mm pipe definitely.

I think that was a record for the longest time ever to fit an exhaust, lol. Had to cut the bolts at the exhaust to cat join, not a lot of room in there. Plus working an hour or two here and there.
So the Jetex with two silencers is on and it sounds luvverly! Not too boomy like the stainless one silencer I put on my old 850. Yep, very happy with this one.

To add to it, I have just replaced the original 2 silencer set up on my MY2000 V70. I was offered a new but old-stock OEM single silencer system which I fitted. It may or may not be better quality than the current systems they sell which others have warned here do not last. It is a bit noisier than the original at idle and low speed but not noticeably at speed. So my conclusion is that Volvo fitted that extra silencer for a good reason, but for me it is not worth more than doubling the cost to replace it. Joe |

Hi Joe, I have a 1998 V70 with the one standard "clam shell" silencer. This is after market and boomy. Ninjabob81 reco everyexhaustpart who have a uk ebay site. I have ordered one of their stainless steel "quiet" silencers to fit on the tail pipe at a cost of £63.00 which I think is very reasonable. Once fitted I shall post results. jack

Hi, My rear silencer arrived from "everyexhaustpart". I went for their "quiet" stainless steel 6 inch diameter model and opted for one 20 inches long and a clamp fit.. The silencers are available from 8 inches to 28 inches long, clamp or weld.
The difference is amazing; from a booming loud exhaust I now have a quiet and refined exhaust. This for £63.00. Its all thanks to Ninjabob81 who reco this company. They have a uk ebay shop and could not have been more helpful in answering my questions regarding their products. Hope this helps you guys. jack |
