960 throttle body plate on s70/v70/850 N/A
Hello, just been doing some research on tuning the N/A cars on how to squeeze a bit more power out of them. What sprung to mind originally was to put a T5 intake and throttle body on, but is apparently 10mm smaller in diameter. But after some further research another common modification is to put a 960 throttle body plate onto the original throttle body. This doesn’t have a plastic piece onto it, which restricts air flow. This can improve power and low down torque people say.
Has anyone done this modification on here On other forums people have done this and say that it can also improve MPG, which is the main reason I bought 2.5 10v. A few questions have come to mind and I’m just curious of what to expect such as problems it may cause and the benefits of doing it. Thanks |

this mod only really works on turbo models, to make an NA faster you need to alter compression ratios and headflow, aswell as airflow thru the inlet manifold
I have a 960 TB on my forged 850 T-5R youd probably get some gains from running the 2.5 20V inlet manifold, which co-incidentally has a larger TB than the turbo models. Some of the turbo modding folks like these manifold, supposedly smoother flowing but i couldnt confirm either or. Dunc

Sorry for the delay, you say a 20v intake manifold would improve performance on a 10v, is this because it’s slighly larger or it has less resistance?
I was also thinking about the injectors, if I replaced the intake manifold I’d probably change the injectors, are the 20v injectors slightly larger or different in anyway compared to the 10v. I want to improve it slightly and I’m going to a Volvo scrappers in Bedford so I can get the bits. Can it be improved in any other way? Thanks for the help |

tbh buddy i wouldnt waste your energy. All swapping injectors will do is make it overfuel at first them prob throw a CEL. In hindsight im not even sure the 20v inlet will bolt up to the 10v head, plus the ports are a completely different shape.
if you want a faster Volvo, entertain a turbo model from the word go. Dunc

Thanks again for advice, I bought the car for one purpose to go to Benidorm and I have moments where I research into making naturally aspirated engines quicker as I’m a fan.
We were looking into purchasing a T5 CD auto but again that’s one of many ideas me and my dad have. Thanks again for your help, much appreciated |
