David Bowie's 262C
Is this the most expensive 2 series ever?
According to my copy of this week's 'Classic Car Weekly', late singer, David Bowie's former Volvo 262C has sold at a Swiss auction for £160,735 - nearly tripling it's pre-sale estimate. Apparently, Bowie continued to use the 1981 car, which was delivered new to his Swiss home, as late as 1998 - when the vendor bought it. It has now completed just under 33,000 miles, and is described as being in pristine condition. www.oldtimergalerie.ch Obviously, the car's provenance helped, but this must be a record for any two series car. Regards, John.

Yes, it must be a record, but I'm not at all surprised. Given a rare model, supposedly in pristine condition with only two owners and documented low mileage history and then throw in the Bowie factor and you have the perfect recipe for the price to just go through the roof as obviously has happened.
