Default MOT Changes 2018

Apologies if someone has posted already but I've only just seen this.

https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...2018-draft.pdf

A draft so may change, but, from May EGR blanks/deletes, gutted CAT/DPF and retrofit HID are now a Fail. There is now a "nuisance" reason for fail which includes exhausts louder than standard.

Bugger...

Sounds good to me, as I get older my eyes seems to be getting more sensitive to badly aligned aftermarket HIDS.

wow thats a big document and I dont understand it at all! with the retrofit HID's thats no problem as swapping the bulbs take a second which is great on our cars.

Dont understand that exhaust thing? cant have an exhaust thats louder than standard? surely thats a load of rubbish, will put out most of the fabricating exhaust companies out of business then.

The document says 'DRAFT' all over it? thats not official is it?

By DRAFT - it is office but it could be subject to change before it comes into force in May. The "Nuisance" section is too vague in my opinion.

Completely agree.... so you can buy a barn find on eBay now and drive it home. I’ve got a car over 40 years old, but I don’t have brake rollers in my garage.

I think any classic owner with an ounce of sense will have an MOT style test run by a seasoned tester on the car every year anyway. It's £40, and the brake testing and gas analyser alone can give you insights into maintenance needed that you simply can't get unless you have the kit at home.
