That's a useful piece of info, thanks.

I have a similar issue with mine in that it only activates when i open the door. From then on all OK. Perhaps opening the door is partially activating the ignition as i see the dash lights up, etc.

Have you any idea which fuse it is so that I can check myself rather than do the 100 mile round trip to my dealer.

Thanks a lot.

The dealer fitted my fuse after I contacted them, initially they said volvo did not recommend having the permanent live to avoid low battery warnings, I showed them their own fitting instructions showing the live connection and fuse and the Alko instructions, they then fitted the fuse.
The fuse is in a module behind the side trim in the cargo area (XC90) see fitting instruction link below. (Pin 9 is the permanent live on a 13 pin socket)

Thanks very much for that.

I will get onto it before our next outing in March.

Great post, thanks. I have ordered the folding towbar to be factory fitted on my XC90 (retro-fit seems very invasive on XC90), it will be interesting to see if the fuses are fitted in the factory (the brochure states it is a fully wired), we shall see but if it doesnt power my IDC (BPW chassis anti-snake device) i shall know where to suggest the dealer looks in order to get it up and running.

Sorry VC - all XC90 towbars are dealer fitted at PDI, even factory order, as I found out during the course of getting mine ordered. I made a mistake adding it to the order / lease as in my circumstances I’d have been better adding it after, having full (Not 50% VAT reclaim) and I’d have reduced my BIK, and NIC! You live and learn!

PS she’s arrived, sadly only had time for a 2-3 mile potter, but everything looks good and it was beautifully presented and a great handover from the dealer’s delivery driver. D76

The towbar situation has changed v v v recently in so much as they can now be ordered with a towbar fitted at the factory during manufacture (this may even be since Jan 18 production), having it fitted there has delayed delivery by a couple of weeks though (i have secured a previously Feb del ordered car of my desired model, amended the spec to my own and no prolem with Feb del if dealer fits the towbar but delivery to me put back to 3rd week March if factory fitted). Of the dealers i was speaking to in Dec, some were aware, some were not but eventually they all came ack and confirmed this having spoken to Volvo. Mine is a personal lease so cost to me the same whether towbar fitted at factory or dealer but wanted to avoid the invasion into a new car if I could.

Very interesting policy change, and good news...my late Dec build was definitely a dealer fit as I was hounding them to make a faultless job!! I’ve got car OCD too (I’ve seen your other car pictures!!) - I too was worried about an invasive op, but there is not the slightest evidence visible that anything was done, and the bumper cut is minimal and clean.

Great news D76, hope the Volvo lives up to all expectations and look forward to hearing of progress. It looks like I am about 2 months away.
