Default V70 Oil level strange goings on

I found this thread up ..I cut out some of it as it was the oil level issue that caught my attention

Checked the oil this morning and to my horror found it was dry.

I added oil, waited five mins, checked the dip stick, added oil, and so on until it was almost full and then added slick 50.

Then this evening the ABS and brake circuit failure light both come on and the speedo stopped working. I turned it off and back on and both those lights went off but the engine management light come on and stayed on. I was only around the corner so drove it home nice and steady. I checked the oil and the dip stick is saying there is way to much oil in there! (yes I'm an idiot).

When I brought mine home the first time the oil level was also low, so I topped it up ( properly) and checked it after leaving overnight and it was fine, it was also a nice golden colour. Coming home the other night I got the oil pressure warning light, stopped in the dark and there initially didn't seem to be any oil on the dipstick, I waited a while and it settled down, dipped it a few times and eventually it was back up the stick. The next day I checked it and it was not only too high but also quite dark coloured...now I only did about 40 miles since it was the correct level and golden.

I read on here somewhere that someone took the sump off and had a load of oil suddenly fall out, so I was wondering if there is any chance that a blockage could be holding oil up and preventing some returning to the sump, thus causing pick up problems at high revs...any thoughts??

Strange. First thought would be to check the crankcase ventilation system is working properly.

Hello, SARCASM DEPT: Never, under any circumstances, ever give us any details about your car. Mileage of the car described by aashwell is of tremendous help.
"...brought mine home the first time..." Had you just taken over the car? How many miles on it? Is it turbo or not? When you topped it up how much did it take, approximately?
I can't think of a blockage scenario but Brendan's suggestion to look at the PCV system is a great place to start. The oil vapor box could hold about 1litre of oil. The time it "settled down" did the oil pressure light go out?
It sure sounds like something is making the PCV system suck oil directly. Kira

I have posted the car details on virtually every other thread I have posted in the last week.....that's quite a few ( and you replied to one of them)....in this case I didn't really see that it was that relevant as the post was more of a curiousity

For the record it is a 2001 2.4 170 with 120,000miles.

I bought it last monday, when the oil came up the light went out ...I wouldn't have driven it otherwise..thanks for replying anyway
