Greetings, it could be a dickie valve block.

This might shed some light on things. They seem to know their stuff so a quick call to them might help, it’s a shame you live so far away. Good luck

Nah, mine doesn’t do that. Take to a transmission specialist and ask em to try it, they’ll be able to tell.

Must admit from cold it's lovley it's happening more once it's warmed up
I'll have it back to Volvo again as it's still under warranty.
So far they have done a gearbox reset and oil change. They say there is nothing wrong but I don't believe a bang is correct to be honest.
I'll keep nagging them

ours is a 2012 and it had the same exact issue last year, like you say, much worse when hot. It only had 57k on it when we bought it and first noticed the issue.
It went into volvo because of a perhaps unrelated issue which required the TCM to be replaced. Volvo highlighted the banging and reported that it is a know issue where the seals in the pump in the gearbox fail and need to be replaced. They now have a procedure for this (which they said previously it would have been a new gearbox!) and the charge is about £1500.
It might not be the same seeing yours is 4 years newer but its worth investigating.

Good god that's a nice bill. Yeah I read about these seals leaking in the gearbox and Volvo used to just replace box job done but they now insist on repairing it. I'll persist with my dealer as it's still under warranty for just shy of a year so.
Thanks
Tom
