Garmin, for years now, have warned about “Safety Cameras” in France.
I think this is their way around displaying “Speed Cameras”?

My son and family are going to spend the whole of September in France and I updated his Garmin Nuvi with the latest software, after receiving a special offer:

http://m.mails.garmin.com/nl/jsp/m.j...%2C%2012586%20

I did it for him as he only has an Android Tablet.

Tried to get an answer from Volvo, but no one answered, so tried two dealers and it appears the general unmarked limits are from the sat nav. so updating maps at present.
I would be interested to know if anyone with the later maps has found this now corrected when in France.
I was driving in France 2 weeks ago and the correct 80kph speeds were shown by the RSI on the screen.

Yep, I think they have been showing 80 limits since last autumn. I notice now that more and more cameras have been repaired following the attacks on them from the gilet jaunes.

Thank you all for information.
I still cannot work out why my sensus system does not pick up the French
radar cameras unless when the map is set for France the Volvo sensus switches
off the radar detection?

However I have gone in to settings and switched off the speed camera detection.

So just observe the limits and all should be fine!

Same on Tom Tom, the French speed camera locations are not allowed due to the French law, hence the software blocks them for France.

The car does not detect radar. Is uses GPS to warn you of cameras ahead according to its database of camera locations. It does not do this in France as to do so would break French law. Volvo have configured the car to prevent the driver from breaking the french law. I don't think I can put this any more clearly.

Although my Vo;vo is parked up in the airport car park, my Spanish Ford has built in Nav and the updates did not accommodate the reduction in the speed limit from 90kph to 80kph on unrestricted roads. Guess the answer is use your own eyes to look for limits don't depend upon technology.

Apparently the French have got very hot on speed over there, lowered limits, and will ban you on the side of the road if too far over the top.

We used Waze for this years Le Mans trip and whilst you can't locate speed cameras, it does pop up telling you there's an enforcement zone ahead. Other users had also recorded the location of 'police' (generally where the cameras are!) which also gets around it to a certain extent..
