Car gets delivered from workshop to showroom ready to collect, and I jump in and 'tad da' it fails to start ( that will be the forth breakdown in a month).

To be fair the service manager immediately got their top tech on it. He arrived with a PC to plug in, so hopefully will hear soon as to what the issue is causing the problem.

as rooster prev said they were bad for tank pump wiring burning out .
what ive done in past get someone to crank it in fail state then knock underside of tank nsr and see if it starts

another fault is when fuel guage registers 3 bars on guage and it turns out to be empty then again do dim upgrade then replace tank unit

I'm not sure, exactly, what your symptoms are, but I've just fixed a problem on another make of car, where the car would start fine when cold, but when at normal operating temperature wouldn't start - it turned over but not run.

That turned out to be a Crankshaft position sensor..

May be a false lead, but there were many on the other car's forum pointing towards fuel pumps/relays etc too.
