I was searching for info on dealing with a flat battery and jump start to get the car to a power source for charging, or whether to just call Volvo Assist, but feel my info could be relevant here so just as a 'note'

XC60 15 months old, not used for 11 weeks due to Achilles Tendon snapping and the resultant below knee cast boot.

opened once in that time at about 6 weeks to retrieve items don't believe I started it then, but access no issues.

after 11 weeks battery was completely dead

I have a lithium battery jump start Unit that's fantastic but haven't used it on the Volvo.

I tried quickly last night in the drizzle, but I suspect my engine hoist hoop??was not a good earth, so will take off the panels today to try the live and negative terminals direct.

Unless advice is NOT to jump it at all with the electronics involved?

It will show in your manual exactly where and in what sequence to connect cables for a jump start. In most cases it will tell you NOT to connect direct to battery due to various sensors, etc.

This is from the early MY17 manual, yours may be different:

Just wondering can you remote start it and leave it running for a length of time to keep batteries charged?

Although not good in a garage

Volvo warn against connecting anything directly to the main (boot) battery. You must use the terminals in the engine bay which (apparently) connect to the car's charge controller which in turn ensures that both batteries are charged correctly.

Assuming you have full access to the car, I reckon a better solution would be to connect a 'smart' charger to these terminals. A good one is a CTEK MXS 5.0 which will progressively bring a dead battery back to life.

Connect to the battery using the positive terminal lug, installed for this purpose, situated proudly on top of the auxiliary battery, just to the left of the engine [looking from the back of the car], which is to your right looking from the front. There is an earth terminal lug on the car body, somewhere on the wing. It should be obvious but RTFM for precise location and connection sequence. No point anyone printing this out for you when it is all in the manual. This can be found using your voc app

Great advice
Jump starting it or using it to jump start others is not a problem. Leave the jump starter to give the Volvo some initial charge before jumping it or ideally using a smart charger. Hopefully your car batteries will have not been reduced to junk, which is what often happens when batteries have been completely discharged a while

Sorry to hear your woes.

In the end - my car spent about 7 weeks without being run and the missus took it on a few runs and it was faultless. I guess the hot summer probably helped the battery.
