Interesting the software upgrade affected the range.

Since I posted I’ve been experimenting, last 2 days I had to make a trip to the hospital, it’s a 30 mile round trip. Day 1 I left the car in Hybrid mode. After 9 miles the battery had run out, it appears to use nothing except the battery ( no it’s not in pure mode, definitely hybrid) so obviously on the rest of the journey it used just fuel, by the end of the trip I got an average of 46mpg.

Next day I did the identical trip but this time whenever I was just cruising or going downhill I switched to “hold charge” to force the car to use the petrol engine. I was constantly doing this the whole journey. After the 30 miles the battery was still drained but my mpg was 82.

So it looks like I have to man manage the hybrid mode. I assumed that’s what the auto hybrid was supposed to do. But watching it, it seems atm to almost be in pure mode all the time despite me selecting auto hybrid.

Both days above the outside temp was about 5c and the heating was set to 19 auto. No heated seats on.

I’ve just received my xc60 T8 recharge today, very interested in this thread as my initial observations are that the battery range is significantly less than I expected indicating 8-9 miles max and being reduced to 0% in very short journeys (say 12 miles with hybrid use). Also, I left the dealership with total range indicated at 590 miles, after a 12 mile(ish) journey to down to 490!

I understand the software may be just figuring things out as it’s a new vehicle, but I will find it unacceptable if this doesn’t improve considerably.

Latest software is version 1.8 let me know how you get on. I found it improved my range by circa 3 miles on pure but still very poor I find…

I took delivery of my MY22 XC60 T6 just before Christmas. Most range I'm given on a full charge is 21 miles. I've booked in to go back to th dealer Friday as, while I accept getting the advertised 32 miles out of it is not realistic, I would expect the OPTION of a fully charged battery saying "you've got 32 miles" until I turn everything on.

Hi, my T8 arrived on 29th December, zero charge when we picked it up and lost 70 miles of total range on the 30 mile trip home. Had to return to the dealer the following day, fully charged battery ran out after about 8 miles in hybrid mode and 80 miles of fuel range used for 60 mile round trip. Today I lost 6 miles of battery range for a trip of about 1 mile in 20 and 30mph zone. This is absolutely rubbish. Dealer has asked that we call in to see if we are doing something wrong in the settings 🤷🏻*♂️
The car is lovely, but the battery and fuel performance is pathetic.

Mine ain’t that bad but I am lucky if I get 14 miles out of the battery on a full charge, pre conditioning and in pure mode (which according to my car should give me 24 miles). Let me know how you get on. Fingers crossed they fix it.

I get the same 21 miles indicated with the full battery, is the claimed range 32 miles (for the T8)? It definitely seems to be getting better than the first few trips. I have the same view as you, there doesn’t seem to be much difference between the hybrid and pure modes, I thought hybrid would be more ‘hybridy’ but it seems to use the battery in the same way as the pure mode?

Fully charged this morning dash showed 100% charge and the range was stated at 16 miles.
I agree about the way it drives being use battery then fuel, I expected something different. And whilst it is a lovely thing, lovely to be in and drive I’m really quite unsure about the dynamics.

Here's a recent trip in our MY21.5 XC90 T8 with 11.8KwH battery (so less range expected than an XC60 given XC90's heavier kerb weight - 150kg heavier). Car is 8 months from new.

Edinburgh. Cold (0C). Trip on the suburbs of a town so mix of 20/30/40mph but all suburban roads, no dual carriageway. Lots of stopping/starting given roundabouts/traffic lights etc - I'd say about 30+ junctions/roundabouts where had to come to rest and accelerate up to speed again. Battery was fully charged. 2 occupants + large dog and full boot. Trip was a return trip so no overall up/down hill advantage - but with some significant ascents and descents on the trip.

- 16.8 miles completed with 20-25% range left.
- Hybrid mode.
- 7.7KwH used
- ICE did not kick in so no petrol used.
- Had about 20-25% battery left indicated on the dashboard at end of trip - so would have expected a range of 21-22 miles based on this usage pattern. Have seen our range being 24-25 miles in other conditions as per Director76's figures.
- The driver did not use any special battery saving driving techniques. Was normal driving with firm acceleration up to speed. (I am trying hard to refrain from saying "it was my wife - who drives it like a go-kart/dodgem car"!)
- Aux fuel heater was not used before setting off.
- Radio on as per normal. Driving lights on as normal. AC on as normal set to Auto with internal temp set to 20C each side.
- Heated seats and heated steering wheel were not used.

....or as my wife would see it. "Got in car, drove as fast as I could to the conditions/speed limits, got out of car" if that gives an idea that zero consideration was given to any special electric only behaviours or modes, or keeping things switched off intentionally, etc etc.

before my electric motor gave up the ghost, see my "tale of woe" thread" I had no problem with 21m on hybrid and if I used Pure then 25m but of course Pure does lower the car to be more aerodynamic and some cabin services are not available.
Will be interesting what milage I get when the car is repaired which should be 11/1.
