Default prices for T5-R Auto

What kind of money are genuine T5-R's going for in automatic? And what are the common things to look for or is it very much the same as a standard 850 with exception of intercooler/turbo/ larger brakes

They essentially have the same traits as the n/a 850's except with the addition of turbos ect as you have mentioned not that they are prone to failure of course more just it's something extra you may have to attend to during the cars ownership. As for values they seem to range from anything up to around £4,000 for an exceptionally good one down to around £1,300 for a poor one.

Default T5-r

Thanks for that so they're fairly cheap. What would I need to look for to make sure its a genuine T5-R and not a modded T5 also is the R the same as the T5-R

The T-5R was the original higher performance variation of the T5. This model ran for approximately 1 production year as a limited run. Originally available in black or yellow with green added later. When the T-5R production finished the R was put into production it wasn't limited production but sold in similar numbers. Yellow was dropped as an exterior colour choice with solid red, solid white, gun metal grey metallic and turquoise blue metallic added as colour choices.

To spot a T-5R or an R main differences over other models..

Exterior

T-5R - You would be looking for 5 spoke 17inch alloy wheels (Titans) and deep front spoiler.

R - You would be looking for 7 spoke 17 inch alloy wheels (Volans) and a deep front spoiler.

This picture shows an 850R (car closest to the camera) and a T-5R with Volans and Titans fitted retrospectively

Interior

T-5R - Walnut look dash trim and centre console, half leather half alcantara interior, alcantara on the outer edges of the seats. Colour dark grey/black only. Leather steering wheel with small lower section trimmed in alcantara - Only 850 produced to have this fitted as standard. Wooden gearknob

R - As above but with the alcantara in the centre of the seats. Interior colours are either beige or dark grey/black (extra bolsters built in to front seat bases - only 850 to be fitted with these standard). The 850R's were the only 850's ever produced to have grey leather covered handbrake lever and gear lever. Steering wheel was leather trimmed with the lower section trimmed in grey leather to match gear lever and handbrake.

If it's a saloon R it has the extra flick on the boot spoiler(you can see the extra flick in the picture above with both models featured), only 850 ever produced to be fitted as standard with this feature.

Tbh everything that makes an R or a T-5R the genuine artical can be removed and fitted to another lesser spec car however there is the V5C log book. Under model description it should state either R or T-5R. If the car started life as a lead in model and not an R or T-5R regardless of what the car has had done this description can't be changed unless the correct channels are persued which includes getting Volvo to approve model designation changes. Because of this most wouldn't bother going to those lenghts. You could also try phoning your local Volvo dealer with the registration and or chassis number and I am sure they can confirm if the car you are looking at is the genuine article or not.

The T-5R had half leather half alacantra seats, dark wood dash, 17" Titan Five spoke alloys, Deep front spoiler, 240bhp(over boost so only in short bursts) and electric everything (both front seats, aircon/climate control, cruise, trip computer, electric sunroof, windows, mirrors etc....
The only differences between the T5-R and the 850R is that the 850R had alacantra on the inside of the seat (the T-5R's is on the outside edge), the 850R had 250bhp (full time), it had a Viscous LSD, 17" Volan 7 spoke alloys and lighter wood trim. T-5R's where made from 95-96 850Rs where 96-97(ish). Colours where Yellow, Black and dark green for the T-5R, Red,Grey,Turquoise,White for the 850R.

That's a basic list, I'll probably get ripped to shreds now because I've forgotten some minor fact but that's basicaly it.

I think it's safe to say between us we have covered the basics you need to know when deciding if an R or T-5R is genuine although don't forget the R was also available in green like the T-5R

Default T5-r

Thats great information. So I take it that the R is a higher performance variant of the standard N/A 850 where the T5-R is the higher performance T5?

I've read somewhere that only 500 or so T5-R's were produced and only a portion of those where shipped here is that true ?

Think I will have to start looking for a black T5-R in Automatic

No the R is also a high performance version of the T5. In fact the 850R manual is effectively the most powerful 850 T5 to leave the factory in standard form destined for public ownership. What I meant was the T-5R was the first of them, essentially the R and T-5R are the same car with a few trim and mechanical changes to differentiate the models
