Default Minidisc Player

Hi, was wondering if anyone can help. I have a XC90 55 plate. I have loads of minidiscs from a few years ago, what I was wondering is does anyone know where I would be able to buy a minidisc player and also how easy would it be to install.

Regards,

There is a wide range of mini disc players being sold on Amazon and Ebay. You can then plug the disc player up via the aux link in the car (if you have one) so it plays through the existing sound system. Having said this, my advice would be to convert your mini disc tunes to MP3 format and put them all on an mp3 player. Much easier in the long run and there are plenty of cheap converter programmes and leads that you can buy to hook up to your pc to run the conversion.

I always thought the minidisc was standard until I saw your post. I've never used mine as I couldn't find any mini discs at a reasonable price and it won't play recordable ones only pre recorded.

Anyway I have a Dension fitted now so I have 64 CD's on a USB memory stick. It's really great not to have the car cluttered up with CD's and being able to change digital CD's with the steering wheel controls.

But...if you DO have a minidisc player, is it possible to get a minidisc-> aux adapter, like the one you used to get for tape players (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...SL._SS500_.jpg?) I imagine the sound quality wouldn't be too bad, as MD is digital. Maybe this would be cheaper than fitting a GW500, Parrot or GROM MOST kit.

Roy,
I used to compile my own MDs, which played fine on my 2003 XC90's minidisk player.
I was not pleased that new models no longer have minidisk players.
However, since I have a USB input instead now, I re-recorded my collection onto USB sticks. It occasionally doesn't want to read some of the tracks, but on the whole it works well.
I gave away loads of minidisks to the chap who bought my old car.

That's interesting because I have the 2003 minidisk player but the handbook says it won't play recorded disks and that has been confirmed on the forum. I wonder if more than one make was fitted during the same year? I haven't actually tried it as I didn't see the point of buying a blank disk if it wasn't going to play once I'd recorded onto it. Still the Dension has superceeded it now anyway.

Hi Roy,
That is odd as I have a 2006 (55) SE that has played every MD that I have given it, both original recordings (pre-recorded) and DIY compilations?

I didn't own a MD player prior to getting the car, but once I had it - £25 spent on fleebay got me a decent Sony MD machine and a stack of disks.

I think it's the early ones like mine that don't play recordables.

Your right about ebay, but I never thought of that 5 years ago and the mini disk player in my car has been well and truly superceeded by the the Dension.
