Default S40 2.0 D Timing belt interval

Hi, I bought this second hand 56 plate S40 2.0D a couple of months ago. It currently have just above 102K on the clock. Volvo stamps are confirming the that car was regularly serviced by Volvo until 78K. However it doesn't show if the cam belt was changed. Last owner was honest enough to explain that he serviced the car himself and never changed the belt. He claimed that according to the Volvo dealer this car required cam belt changed at 160K which I am unable to believe.

Can anyone confirm when this should be changed? OR what is official interval for cam belt change for these cars?

Thank in advance.

Ash

110K or 10 years from memory, personally I would do it now just for the knowledge that it is done, also consider the waterpump whilst it is off maybe just my view.

Thank you for all the replies. I have had quite a few different opinions. My colleague say do it around 130K but I think I should do it now for extra peace of mind. Do i really have to change water pump as well along with timing belt? What make of timing belt would you recommened. I would no way get it changed at Volvo dealer as I am sure it will cost me a leg and an arm :-(

A genuine belt will last the distance and if you are replacing then I wouldn't go with anything else other than another genuine belt. Even if you don't have the work conducted by Volvo just supply a Genuine belt to your garage of choice or else you'll end up with some cheapo belt that more than likely won't last the distance to the next 144k.

Get a good indy to do the job and save a lot on labour costs. Had mine done at about 126,000 as I had the money ready for it and also had the fuel filter done as had no idea when that had been done.

The original belt was fine and could have gone on for another couple of years easily apparently. DONT get a "bargain" belt.

Thank you all for all the suggessions specially to SonyVaio ( This guys is everywhere in the forum with his very useful and top suggestions ). I will buy the genuine part for sure but wouldn't go to Volvo to get it changed just to save the labour cost as they are very expensive. I have noticed that they are people selling genuine Volvo parts on EBay. Are they really genuine or it's just the tag? Sorry for asking this stupid question :-)

Just got to be careful as with everything you buy, there are genuine sellers on ebay and by genuine I actually mean Volvo Dealers. So you can sometimes get very good parts at good prices.

You can always give Rufe a call too - LINKY! for details. You can do mailorder parts through them and they offer forum members a good discount using forum discount code 'C3'.

Certainly worth a call for a price anyway. If in doubt with eBay just put up a post asking what people think and a link to the eBay Ad. Someone will then say yay or nae!
