Thats right JB they will be compulsory on all new cars in 2011, wonder what they will look like on the S40 if they are still making it then?

Jonnie, have you seen the DRL's being sold by MS Design?
Here is an example: http://www.ms-design.com/en/produkte...-i30.html#form They come with mounts for the bumpers. I have a query out to them to see if they have something that'll fit our bumpers. The Hyundai I30 version could be interesting and if you colour match the fitting frame, may even look like a factory option! I'll post a response as and when. J |

Yes ive been thinking along these lines at some form of bumper install as theres not much room in the fog, it will look silly in the lower grille and I guess hacking into the headlamps after baking them in the oven for an hour could be risky which leaves the bumpers. I have thought of one that follows the contours, perhaps slightly curved.you know our old bumpers with the bumper protector strip, something like this but an LED! Let me know how u get on. |

Jonnie, the 2007 C30 has bumper inserts - see this:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fi...t_20071025.jpg Just wondering if they can be butchered to achieve what we want? Alternatively there is the option of "grafting" the LED's to the bumper. I've seen this method used on Audi TT door mirrors to upgrade the look. Downside is failures...what do you do when the bulbs fail! |

Yes something like that trimmed down to just surround the led slightly so that it seats into the bumper or on top of the bumper like the headlamp washer jets cap which will save alot of trimming of the bumper. You would just need to cut a slot out for the led light.
I have seen some curved drls on ebay but not sure how curved they are as if too much then they wont look right. At the moment I'm going to install the led strips in the fog as discussed (I have soe now without the orange bits!) and have a think, possibly wait to see what the new S40 comes out with next year if they are still making it. Volvo told me when I serviced the car they havent stopped making it - or see what leds they put on the C30? In fact as you have spotted the Hyundai led lights sit on the bumper, these would be ideal. I would have liked them to be a bit deeper like on porsche 911/skoda octavia - what do they look like when lit? Also looking at the other cars on ms design, they have the same leds so they must be a flexible strip with a custom made plastic surround - these are the ones we need but how much and do you think they will do a design for the S40 ? No response from them yet, I wonder if they understand me or whether I need to write to them in German....

Installed leds but realised I had cut out the fogs at the bottom rather than the top, regardless of that I think they look pretty good.
I will see how these perform over the next few weeks/months and iof ok then I will order some new fog inserts, more led strips and get it right this time (silly sod!) Last edited by Jonnieb2009; Sep 24th, 2010 at 18:55. Reason: pics added |
