Default Central locking problem - S40 D 20001

We lent the car to our son at the weekend - he unlocked with the key not the fob - now the drivers door lock stays down (it skips a bit if you lock/unlock) and the drivers door is not locked. Years ago I had a Rover Vitesse Turbo and the central locking used to "get out of synch" and there was a re-set routine - is there one for the Volvo? Anyone has a solution please let me know.
