Default Gearbox howl.

Hi. Looking for your help.

I own an automatic V70R AWD 1998. The car runs and drives very well, however when cold and when moving only, there is a ‘howl’ that appears to come from the auto box. After about a mile this noise disappears. There are no problems with the transmission that I know of as all changes are smooth and kick down is fine.

Any ideas please?

Would the bevel gear howl when stationary? On the odd occasion it doesn’t do it.
Cheers

Wouldn't think so as the prop is stationary.

Sorry I'm out now, have never stripped an auto box so no idea what's in there or how it may cause your noise other than worn bearings but that you should feel as vibration.
