Start the car and look to see if the lights are on.

OK. Tried it. All lights are off. So not like the old models when some lights were on with the ignition. I suppose in summer and lights on auto setting not all the dip beam etc will be on as now which is not helping the battery charge at the moment

They should be off with the switch in the 0 position.
They are only side lights they are not bright enough to be classified as daytime running lights.

My2012 XC60 D5 works as follows.
With light switch turned to left, lights off until I start car, then dipped beam And grill lights and rear led come on until I turn car off, then they turn off, If I put light switch in centre position whilst driving, the dipped beam is turned off and the grill lights stay as do the rear lamps. If I turn the car off the grill lights will remain on until i turn the switch to the left. I rarely ever turn the light switch to the right, IIRC, light switch to right, the lights extinguish after a given period of time without me doing anything. But I will check that tomorrow to confirm. |

Just to confirm, with the light switch at far right position, dipped, side and rear lamps turn on and off with the ignition, no delay, just the same as the far left switch position, which makes you wonder why have the three position when 2 would do.

Although my car is an earlier model the switch works the same as yours but it didnt when I first purchased it. The function was altered when I had service updates but if I remember correctly the position of the switch in 1 position used to stop the main beam from staying on when flashing during daylight, or something similar. I would have thought the switch would have been updated to only 2 positions on newer models but maybe the 3 positions can be programed to operate differently when sold in various markets abroad so it was kept.
