Unhappy N/S driveshaft removal and replacement probs

Hi all,

The cage broke in my nearside inner cv joint, and so i need to replace the driveshaft. My first problem is getting the old driveshaft out from the gearbox - it wont budge and there's minimal room to get a grip on the thing, doesn't help that the rest of the driveshaft isn't attached (the cv joint just fell apart when the cage broke). Any ideas ??? If i can't get the old one out then i have to have a broken volvo on my driveway for the rest of my life!

I vaguely remember reading somewhere that you could remove the o/s driveshaft and push the n/s one through the gearbox - is this possible ? Anyone tried this ?

Second is i need to get a new driveshaft, going to phone Rufe tomorrow, and fcpgroton to see if it's cheaper to get one posted from the US. Anyone else ? Checked partsforvolvos, eurocarparts and GSF websites but doesn't look like they seel one for a '98 V70 AWD. Any ideas ?

Thanks for any help
Alistair

Hi,

Having recently replaced my nearside driveshaft, I would suggest removing the cv gator and giving it a damn good tug. It is meant to come out towards you.

Can always get tool no. 1 involved if need be...

Took CV boot off, after a lot of tugging i still couldn't get it off, but using this bar tool i managed to get it off.

Ended up getting new driveshaft from Volvo, £300 odd quid.
