Lots of good advice.

can i get away with a 91 load rating? If I can i can get a set of Alpin 5 Michelins for 250ish.

I think i will need 215/55/16, but wondered if i could get away with 205/55/16 as they are a lot cheaper. I have no idea about speed and load rating though as i don't have the handbook in the car.

Any advice welcome as i would like to order today if possible.

I think the 205-55/16 would work fine and maybe be better as winter tyres than the 215s.

The outside diameter at the tread between 205-55/16 and 215-55/16 is so small that won't be a problem for a V70. The only question would be whether 7" wide wheels would accommodate the specific tyres you might want. What I am thinking is that certain 205s might be too narrow for 7" wide wheels. Some Volvo 16" diameter wheels are 7" wide and some are 6.5" wide, I think. The Volvo site on wheels should be able to tell you which you have.

I have no knowledge of that being a problem. The tyre factor should know. Some people say that narrower tyres work better than wider for winter tyres so I personally would want the 205s unless I had authoritative information that this was too narrow for the specific wheels I had.

My Coopers are 91H. I hit a manhole with the cover missing at about 60 mph a couple of weeks ago, flattened the alloy but didnt burst the tyre.

I got mine from mytires, £54 each or there about.
