I think the compass was an option only from c.2009 on Lux trim.
I remember my 2008 V70 Lux had it - and I had Satnav (also an option at the time, which I didn’t order) but when the car was delivered, it had been fitted as part of a promo offer...
Some years later I bought a used 2008 XC70 Sport which had an amazingly high spec. yet no compass. I took a chance and bought a compass mirror on ebay and when fitted, it worked - plug & play - so that might be an option for you.
Bluetooth also definitely not standard - option only at about £300 iirc.

There were two phone options in those days, bluetooth connection for your own mobile, or a full fat in-car phone complete with a very dated curly-cord handset under the centre consul storage lid (no joke, look for yours!)

The latter has the sim card slot in the glove box, and if you wanted Volvo On Call you had to have the latter as it uses the sim to make the emergency calls (I'm not sure why VOC couldn't use bluetooth to your mobile).

The only way of using the full fat phone from your mobile seems to be by inserting a sim (with a different number as you can't duplicate sims apparently) into the slot, and diverting calls to it when you get in the car, which is a bit of a faff.

That’s right - my 2008 XC70 had this! It would never stay in place, always dropping from the lid into the compartment - damned nuisance - gravity always wins in the end!
Seems so recently that this was the latest must-have ‘thing’.
How times change...

My one does indeed have the phone in the center console

But also my car does have "on call"

2008 car wouldn't have many features for on call I'd imagine !

The old school phone is a nice novelty but I would've been happier with being able to connect my phone with Bluetooth. Strange Volvo indeed !
