Question Vida and model year 17 cars

I have a Dice and Vida 2014B which has worked perfectly on the Volvo's we owned but my wife has changed to a 2017 XC60 which has thrown a "engine service required" warning. Just to check it was not something urgent I hooked up the Vida but although it correctly read the VIN it would not identify the car or perform any diagnostics.
Will Vida 2014D perform any better or is Vida no longer any use on later vehicles.
Any help would be appreciated.

John

No.
Like any program, it only contains the data available at the time of the version being written (approx 2013/14).
It's impossible for it to contain information from the future nor is it possible to update it.

volvo stopped using that version of VIDA in 2015 they now use an entirely different system which is not at all compatible and impossible to counterfeit anymore .

Anything made can be counterfeited Clan, the only restriction is cost versus profit.

Wonder if snap on 18.4 diognostics would work on it.
Many garages use snap on generic diognostics devises and their current up to date OBD2 software is 18.4 so April 2018.

A very good reason to not buy a new volvo in my book then.

Having the choise wether or not to use a Volvo dealer to maintain your car is fine. Being forced to use a Volvo dealer because no one else can get the information is quite another thing in my book.

This policy has just devalued any new volvo as the secondhand market has now become very restricted , once that car is on to its third owner very few will willingly pay dealer prices..

I'm pretty sure all makes are doing this now , Tesla are for sure there has to be a traceable history of what exactly has been done to the car and when .. You would be surprised what is stored in the SRS module on the car for example ... Yes you will find all cars are pretty worthless after 7 or 10 years with 150000 + miles on them . The trend will be all inclusive leasing packages in the future , like the Polestar I and II is now ......

That may well be true Clan and I have already stated this will be my last volvo as they no longer offer manual transmition in any model I would consider. There are however still drivers cars out there and the semi commercial 4x4 market will offer what I want for as long as I want to retain my driving licence that are available to purchase rather than lease.
As for 7 to 10 year old cars being worthless, my 26 year old landrover is an appreciating asset and going up in value with 205 000 miles on it.

It's horses for courses of course and many will take what's on offer and suck it up, while others whom know what they want will find someone to supply it.

Indeed , a lot of cars from the 70's and earlier are shooting up in value now . But not many from the 90's and newer .... Yet !
