Lightbulb Volvo V50 RPM goes down when braking on free gear

Hello. I drive V50 2009 1.6 D mechanical gear box. For example if I turn free (neutral) gear when I drive and then I press brakes, so when I braking, my RPM goes lower then I drive before pressing brakes. When RPM goes down so my engine comes to vibrate like engine comes to stop (it's like when you press brakes when you are on first gear, and you pressing brakes without clutch when engine stops). Any ideas what it could be? If it will help, when I drive with free gear and braking like from 90kmph to 50kmph computer shows that "arrow down (turn gear down)", but I'm not in gear, I'm in free (neutral) gear.

Hey,

I had this thing on 2006 Focus 1.6 diesel (the same engine).

We never got to the bottom of it, but it also never turned into something more serious and never actually stalled.

Read somewhere that it coule be a faulty or incorrectly adjusted brake pedal switch, but since we did not had a fault code we did not replace it.

About gear change - it most likely shows that because coasting in gear saves fuel...

Thanks about your answer .

What is about gear change - well I think at any way staying on NEUTRAL use less fuel then staying on gear .
