Road trip results!!!! Just for those with nothing else to read.
Hi all,
Happy new year! Just thought i'd let you know on my first big road trip in my v70 R AWD. My girlfriend and I went skiing to Austria, through France, Luxemberg and Germany and then on to Val d'Isere in France via Switzerland. It was also my first time driving on the autobahn, bit of an experience but i've done so much milage in the uk now, any sort of big road i'm used to flooring it at the junction and pulling straight out in the fast lane, which the R does wonderfully! I was a bit concerned at first as there was quite a bit of snow on the ground in Austria and there was a very steep slope up to the chalet. All the local cars had their winter tyres on. I just slapped the Winter Mode on and selected the low gear ratio and the car stormed up the slope, even with Goodyear Eagle F1 GS D2's. I hade to use snow chains getting into Val but there had been a massive dump of snow so everyone was using them. Getting the chains on can be fun when you only have 2"'s of wheel arch clearance! I was then late for the ferry as some prat decided to steal a pair of my ski's and the Frech Gendarmerie, thought i was lying and just trying to do and insurace swindle. So once i'd got onto the French payage (I still think there the best roads in Europe!) I switched on the cruise control at 100mph (Obviously I don't condone speeding) and the remainding 700miles literally sped away! Hope everyone else had a good new year. If anyone is thinking of driving to their ski resort then I'd be happy to try and help if you have any questions. walms |

Hi
Hey, sounds like a you had a great time! The autobahn's are a bit crazy the first time, but you adapt and get used to it. Must have been really good fun in the snow, a real adventure. Have fun Hobo |
