Hi folks,
Hope someone can help me with this one, we were driving up the motorway when the interior lights came on and engine died.
Lights work, try turning ignition on nothing happens, not even a flicker from any of the ignition lights!
I suspect a wiring fault.
Does anyone have any idea where to start looking?
Any pointers would be much appreciated.
Kind regards.

Could be the infamous "loom below the rad" fault or just an earth strap corroded enough to fail, give them all a good tug.

Most likely to be earth straps (battery grounds) as already said.

After doing some wiggling of the grounds to confirm this is the problem, have a look at the following 'how to':

Default fault

I had the exact same fault, interior lights, horn and nothing else,no ignition lights nothing, got a mobile auto sparky out and guess what,"oh,that'll be the front loom then" he said,£50 later its sorted, its the loom that runs under the rad,he found the breaks where it had gone brittle, spliced and rerooted the loom.took him 2hrs as he had to lift the rad up,i was happy with £50.

That was a result! Supposed auto electricians near me don't seem to want to entertain anything unless it's fitting an alarm or a battery or simply reading faultcodes. They wouldn't look at wiring for a stereo for me, nor an alarm/immoliliser on a Porsche.... And that's when you take the car to the workshop. Mobile? No chance!!

Definitely a common S/V40 fault though, and can be a bugger to fault find and fix...
