A quick note on the engines you mentioned. The 170bhp won't give you a much better performance over the 140bhp, it will only reach a higher maximum speed, which doesn't really matter on UK motorways (unless you are planning to spend your vacations on German motorways.
The 200bhp has a superior performance (e.g. better acceleration etc.) compared to the 140 and 170, as it is a turbo.

Good luck!

Agreed, the 170 has more power up the rev range, but not much real advantage at under 65-70, so where it comes into it's own you're into 9 points and rising territory. I run a Bifuel and have less power still, on gas as against petrol I lose 5bhp and a bit of torque, more would be nice, but I'll not cry.

I really would not get hung-up on a 170, the turbo versions are where the low down grunt is. The shiny one in a dealer, I'd leave alone. Feeding vanity or the dealer, it'll have exactly the same issues, as a car at half the price, but with less room in you budget to sort them. In fact unsorted but shiny, I gaurantee it'll not do in hte long-game.
Put yoru money into doing the cambelt, PCV, heater-core, pollen-filter, oil, filters, ETM, flush the brake fluid, fresh ATF etc etc - unless of course the dealer is really doing all that, and I have £1000 says he isn't. Because if he is, you've a car good for another 100,000

Very sage advice, CNGBiFuel; much appreciated.

This is why I want a V70 that is being sold by a Volvo enthusiast - I know the vehicle will be genuine. I shall bide my time and wait for the right car.

I might be selling my 2000 V70 / auto. Just ( today ) flew through an not - required 1 sidelight bulb, no advisories.

Unbelievable condition, underneath is like new ( mot man's comment). 1 minor blemish on ns front bumper ( car park incident ) and ditto on rear bumper, otherwise clean shiny paintwork. Leather interior ( beige ) silver paintwork.

I'm only in Redditch if you want to see it.

Only contemplating selling as I have another toy AND a 940 estate as well. Not sure which Volvo to keep !

I'll post you tomorrow with details / specs. I'll post up some pix to give you a flavour of what it's all about.

A "genuine" car, I spent 6 months looking at rubbish before I settled on this one!

That's the reason I have the dilemma ...................... 940 vs V70. I can only keep one !

Regularly serviced, cam belt history, even changed ALL fluids 1000 miles ago.

Tomorrow .

Here's the specs details as promised

2000 V70SE / Auto fully loaded. 2.4 / 140bhp

154121 miles - increasing slightly as I'm using it daily.

12 months MOT [ yesterday !] needed 1 front sidelamp bulb and no advisories.

No rust - even underneath is pristine.

Main specs - Air con., Climate, central locking, Cruise control, Leather heated seats, 4 x elec windows, PAS, tilt wheel.

Tow bar [ removable - used once ], roof spoiler, alloy wheels.

One small blemish [ car park incident ] on front bumper, minor scuffs on toip rear bumper - otherwise body and paint v.good.

All fluids changed + full service 1000 miles ago - including trans.

OB computer. Achieved 34.2 on a run to the south coast last year, average 28 /30 running around.

Drives faultlessly.

Only selling for a good price as I don't want to sell, but can't justify having two Volvo estates ! If I don't get a fair offer I'll keep it and sell the 940.

Pix to follow

Thanks for the information. It is a Mk1 V70, I presume? Also, how many owners has the car had? I'm superstitious and don't like more then three previous owners!

Here's the pix.

JUST NOTED YOUR REMARK RE: OWNERS - IT'S 5, SO I GUESS IT WILL BE OFF YOUR LIST.

They were taken before the bumper got marked [ ns front ].

Forgot to mention - factory dog guard - no dogs !
