Clutch vibrates?
Hey Guys! I just got my first volvo ever! Its a Volvo V40, its a very nice car.
Its the V40 1.8 from 2003 But.. i have noticed that the clutch pedal vibrates abit? I have tried to turn on the motor, put the gearbox in manual, and the press the clutch half way down, and its not vibrating, but then when i press on the acceleretor, then i can feel some vibrations in the clutch pedal, the more rpms, the more it vibrates... Is this a serious issue? I dont really have alot of money, so i cannot afford to replace the clutch.. im hoping that i can aleast drive the car for 1-2 years with this? what do you guys say??? Sorry for my bad english Thanks in advance |

Sounds like DMF. Replacing it basically means a new clutch as well, no point putting a worn clutch back on. Looking at around £400 for the parts, then about 8 hours labour. I've seen them on sale for 30% off at times so you might save a bit.
Mine has been wearing out for 4 years, see the mileage, it's still going. It'll probably die one day.

It is the clutch vibrating , but for half the price you can trow away the DMF and put a 850 flywheel and clutch in. Fixed once and forall .Flywheel around 20€ clutch (maybe the used from the donorcar) if not around 120€ or less .
If not towing a caravan you can still drive for a while. I have the same issue. |

That's good to know... Is it a straight swap?
Does it work on the diesel?

I wouldn't recommend putting a solid flywheel in a diesel, since it does actually do a good job of ironing out the vibrations. Completely pointless on a petrol though, why they did it I shall never know. My old 1.8 still has the factory solid flywheel, and I've never thought that the car felt harsh.

It fits,a flywheel from (in my case )a 850t and i put a new complete clutch and
new bolts .Just count the grooves in the clutch ,and see the pressure group can be attached to flywheel (dia). I advise you go to go to a scrapyard and compare it yourself. They keep putting that DMF because it "should" subdue vibrations better.I can not feel nor hear changes. Only my wallet. Last edited by loely; Jul 8th, 2018 at 13:16. |

Okay so just to be sure, a flywheel from a volvo 850 would fit my car? what 850? a 2.0 or a 2.5? and what year? And will i still be using the clutch for my car, or also the clutch from the 850?
Thanks alot guys! |
