Default Repairng the ETM carbon resistors

I've been looking at the Vexxed web site which has photo's of the ETM components.

The bit that wears is the 'carbon strips' on each side of the throttle spindle.

Surely there is a company that can manufacture these 2 strips. This looks like a really easy thing to make, and not too difficult for a home mechanic to replace.

Am I missing something obvious? Why can't we get replacement 'carbon strips'?

Anyone know any companies that make this sort of electronic stuff that I could approach? Obviously the big boys such as Bosch wouldn't be interested but there's loads of these cottage industry companies in the classic car market that repair electronics.

Any thoughts?

In a previous post I advised that www.autotekelectronics.co.uk will for £35 inspect and advise a cost of repair of failed etms. That raises the possibility that they may be worth an approach. Good luck and report back.

I've not opened an ETM up yet, but I'm wondering if its possible to just move the 'fingers' on the pickups over a tad so that they run on fresh carbon.

The other option is to try and lay fresh carbon down, I believe this is just called 'carbon black' and is mixed with a small amount of resin to hold it altogether - issue would be getting the right resistance and adhesion to the existing carbon.

Default ETM Carbon track

It would be very difficult to lay down more carbon and get the resistance
value to be correct. The engine computer will work on the voltage that the
wiper picks up. The catch might be if there is another resistor in series with
the potentiometer.
The idea of bending the wiper contacts across so that they run on fresh carbon
might just work. Certainly if I have more trouble that is what I will try.

I had the software mod done to stop the ETS light coming on so often.
Has anyone who has had that done notice that the door not closed/seat belt
ding ding continues and you have to open the door and close to stop it ?
I have found that if I changed my habit of starting the engine then doing up the
belt to putting the seat belt buckle in then starting the engine the ding ding
no longer started up. It looks like they stuffed up the ETM modification.

I used bba to sort out the ETM on my V70 earlier this year, cannot fault their service as it was excellent all round - Mike
