What could this hose be for?
Hard to see due to oil leaks.
Little hose coming ot from under starter. see picture. Any thoughts what this could (should) be?

Can't really make it out in photo but it might be a breather.

Heater box drain? Chase it back from the top, should be fairly obvious.

Could it be a pipe from the crank-case breather? From the position, it could be the source of the oil mist you have under the car

If it's oily inside it will be a breather, if clean probably drain.

It was not easy to tell, but I think it came from the firewall.
Heater box drain is my thought. As for the oil leak (mist) I wish I knew. But I sold the car Sunday so I won't have to give it another thought. I did spend some time looking at the breather where it goes on the block, as well as gaskets but saw no leak. Maybe it was from a previous leak? Loved the 164 just too many projects. Hope the kid whos buying it takes care of it. Great solid low mile start to an easy project. Time for me to get going on the V8 Bertone project. Once thats finished I'll get to our 66 Amazon estate.

Please encourage the new owner to join this forum. It would be good to see the car progress, and for him there's plenty of useful advice and moral support available!
Thanks John |

I mentioned the site to him. He plans to paint the car red. I'll forward the link to him.
