D3 Test Drives
Hi Guys,
Ordered my XC60 and it is coming in D3 guise. I ordered a 2.4 in April but have missed the order book. I test drove the 2.4 FWD and was happy with that. Has anybody been able to compare the new D3 engine???? |

My local dealer didn't expect to have a D3 demo until late May or even June, rather than buy "blind" or wait for delivery until September after testing I decided to go with a MY10 2.4 from another dealer.
Double edged I suppose as the 2.4 could be considered "end of line" or the D3 when it arrives could be rated as not as good as the 2.4 - who knows? As I intend to keep it for at least 5yrs, I'm not too bothered as I was well impressed with the 2.4 test drive, compared to my current 2.2D Honda CRV. |

I was very impressed with the 2.4 DRIVe when I tested it in Jan. More than enough power for my needs (and against what I was expecting for such a large car). However, I missed the MY10 boat so have just ordered a D3 DRIVe. A leap of faith I know, having never tested a D3, but the figures (BHP, Torque, MPG) are similar, so I figured I wouldn't notice much difference....anyway, my days of trying to be Ayrton Senna are over ;-)
Fingers crossed the D3 will be a corker when she arrives........ |

I've mentioned this on various threads before but I tested the Freelander 2.2 which has the same power and torque figures to that of the D3. The Freelander is a similar weight, even a little heavier, and even has virtually the same gear ratios for the manual.
May be a good idea to test drive one and see what you think? |

The original 2.4 had 163 BHP and 251 Ib ft of torque
The New D3 2.0 has 163 BHP and 295 Ib ft of torque Do any of the forum members have the earlier 2008/09 model year 2.4 with the aforementioned original 2.4 engine and how do they find the performance? They should be able to give a pretty good indication of how the D3 engine will be perform . |

mmm
I had a XC70 SE lux on a 55 plate and that was a 2.4 with 163, if the power to weight is the same then hopefully it wont be too bad. Checked the Volvo website again today and they STILL show the 2.4....Get a grip Volvo!! Hopefully the power will be ok. I am just concerned as I test drove an early XC90 with 163 and it was pants! |

Reading this the torque was developed at a fairly high rev rate on the XC90 termed the pants! |

Kerb weight XC60 about 1770 and X90 2100 so XC 60 is approx 15% lighter than the XC90

Hey guys, we are not alone. There must be a fair few customers out there that have ordered their XC60 Drive based on the trust that Volvo have not got their power to weight ratio all to **** and built a lemon that can't pull the skin off a rice pudding. We can't test drive until they have some in the show rooms, then there is up to 3 months wait for delivery.
After being told in late March, my MY10 delivery slot for late April was 'unavailable', I had little choice but to accept the model change without even any sales spec sheets at the time. If I had insisted on a test drive before ordering, I wouldn't see my car till September !! They agreed to honour the deal we struck originally, (despite my trade in XC70 will be 2 months older) when the new car comes in June and the price uplift. But what if it is not as good as the 2.4 Drive I tested in March ? I think I will ask for a D3 test drive when available and look forward to other forum commentators. |
