Default Questions about the XC60 basic audio system

I hear the various arguments about how good the upgraded SE audio system is and the even finer dyna audio. I test drove the basic S version and the radio output and sound from it sounded just great to me. With six speakers it was four more than I was used to and I was impressed with it. I was just wondering if there are any S owners out there who are using with the basic system that are unhappy with it?

In my opinion the High Perfomance is not good at all, and I would not like to hear the all basic system. If you like to play your songs and really ENJOY listening to them, go for the Dynaudio. It´s just that good, and it´s even better with the optional subwoofer.

I think you will have the XC60 SE which is not the basic system it has 8 speakers and 40W output ,the basic system is found in the S model and has 6 speakers and 20w output.

Is there anyone with a basic system only found in theXC60 S model?

No I am not looking for connoisseur sound just a decent basic system as I listen mainly to the spoken word or light music sometimes. I also have bad tinnitus which gives me a very loud permanent hissing in my ear which sort of spoils any “state of the art listening” if I did have a likening for it .It does stop you being too worried about slight wind noise though!

Yep mine is the basic system and I think it's just fine. Mostly play Five Live and my iPod through it and it's just fine. I am fairly appreciative of good sound systems and have a good separate CD player and amp in the house. In fact I think the basic Volvo system is better than the one in my wife's new A3.

That’s great thanks, it certainly sounded really well to me on a test drive but I hear about all the upgrades and wonder if it’s necessary for me unless it’s worse than I experienced!

When you play the iPod through it is it just straight sound from the iPod through the radio to the speaker system or is it possible that you can read what is on your iPod from the car display?

Has it a USB connection and input jack in the glove box?

Is your car definitely the S model not SE

Daleman, you need the upgrade to High Performance sound to get the USB interface. I cannot answer for the basic sound system, I can say that the High Perf is superb and I find it more than adequate for use in the car.

I like to have the music, or radio, in the background so I can concentrate on the driving and only went for the High Perf system to get the USB interface
