Any chance you can post a link to what you bought & installed.

Hi
Have you done any further research here regarding issues with HID installation?
This thread is more for compare&afterthought of various options, but there are a LOT of things you need to do in order to succesfully retrofit HID onto P1 car.
Look for DRL disable, WMM issue and extra ground or SKBOWe threads.
just to avoid nasty surprises.

I really think on a GOOD kit from a reputable seller (not ebay) you don't need to worry about this anymore.

I've had my Stealth kit fitted for 3.5 years now without any issues at all. I do have DRL disabled though (previous owner did this before I got the car). I however have my lights on all the time.

Just to make it clear, I have not changed to HID. Everything I have done is with H7 halogen.

No, not really. Even Mormoto kits *can* cause WMM failure as its a combination of all various factors and if you are unlucky good kit will still fail you. On the other hand, understanding the issue helps a lot avoiding the problems.
-Disabling DRL is really nothing different to keeping your switch on pos2 constantly. BUT if someone puts it on pos0 by accident, there is a REALLY high risk of something failing. In best case scenario, just HID kit, in worse - WMM.
- external ground cable is a very safe and cheap remedy that further eliminates possibility of an issue, but previous owner of my car didnt have it and you dont have it either, so its proven it can work without it. But its also proven NOT having it can cause WMM failure. So its a gamble.
- adding any extra capacitors/AF/eliminators in the wiring nivelates possibility even further. Again - proven that not having them can work, but also proven that without them all weird things happen (in my case only ballast died when testing).

bottom line - make it as safe as possible with time/money permits. The more you do, the safer you will be but I am far from statement that "just having good kit will suffice".

Well I was reassured by the guys I got my kit from that they were fully aware of units blowing wiper modules up before I got mine and that their kit had been developed around these issues and causes no problems. As said I've used mine daily for a few years now with no issues.

I'm an electronics engineer, if it goes pop, I'll fix it - Failing that, I'll just buy a new WMM

Hopefully you will never need to prove the theory Btw does their kit plugs into standard wiring (+ and - from actual bulb wire) ? I believe they may have built in some precautions into the ballast, like integrated capacitors or so, but did they also recommend some another method of connecting it? or just "plug into bulb power socket" ?

Yep, the bulb has 4 wires coming from it, two with spade connectors that go into the original H7 connector and two that go to the ballast.

They used to supply an extra relay loom to the ballast to prevent the WWM's from failing but it's all built into the ballasts now.

Happy to remain guinea pig anyway

ah yea, kinda same for me aswell, running my DYI harness succesfully for now. I suspect extra relay loom was something similar to anti-flicker capacitors, thats what I have before my ballasts aswell.

Its kinda first line of defence, so far that part went wrong earlier than ballasts themself. I dont think their wiring bypassed the ground wire though.
Well, fingers crossed for both of us anyway
