Hi if you are happy to do the work and remove the turbo yes strip the turbo down and clean the VNT vain ring,so it moves nice and easy,
don't get a recon turbo, and if you pay a garage to do the work it will be very costly, Dave |

This does sound like my problem, particularly the limp mode on and off during one drive.
Are there any particular codes associated with the fault and how easy/hard is cleaning the vnt? Plus, given its mostly not there, I presume I can leave it for better weather and more time? Cheers Mike |

Hi The Volvo code is ECM 6805
When removing the turbo, you have to have the car jacked up or on ramps remove the downpipe from the turbo disconnect both of the air pipes and the oil pipes and undo the oil drain pipe from the engine, undo the 3 fixings nut and bolts holding the turbo on the manifold, you then have to remove the turbo from under the car, have a look on youtube about cleaning a VNT TURBO, Dave |

Just replaced the rear engine mount and the driveshaft was very much in the way. Will probably help brother-in-law with his rear mount in the spring, but his is a 2WD D5 which should make it much, much easier... |

Had a very similar problem with my '02 D5 V70. Happened intermittently, loss of power just when it was needed. Was advised by the garage to do a bit of Italian tuning, so every month I would floor the pedal in third (hot engine) and run it up to 4.5k, then take foot off completely. Did this 3/4 times each time. Didn't have any further problems. AG

This evening, I drove gently in town for about 1/2 mile, and floored the accelerator. The dash warning came up immediately, and the engine lost power. Turning off and on again cleared the "problem". I found I could repeat the process with the same result. Does this suggest fuel filter (or fuel line pressure sensor) is the culprit? When filling up recently, I noticed a warning on the inside of the fuel filler cap, suggesting that it could cause fuel system problems if it (the fuel cap) wasn't maintained??? Any ideas? |
