Help sooty & misfiring s40 2d
Hi could really do with some help I have a 07 2d s40 with 100 k I brought it 6 months ago and it's always puffed out loads of smoke when you floor it. I am a motorbike mechanic but can't seem to sort this out. (Not many diesel bikes) I've checked the timing, I've cleaned out egr, throttle body & inlet manifold which was full of sticky oil sh*t. Not egr that wasn't to bad. Just slightly sooty. There's no fault codes and I just don't know what it could be I'm just wondering if anyone has had the same experience. Appreciate the advice.

To be honest it sounds normal, especially if you have a Euro 3 with no DPF?
I take it is just the first flooring that you get a big puff and future floorings are not as bad? |

As Sony says not unusual.
Are you noticing it more at night? As the lights from other cars make it look a lot worse that it actually is. A new air filter might help, my old mk3 Mondeo used to be improved a little with it changed. But as Sony says all turbo diesels puff a bit of smoke when started up in the morning and chuck out soot when given the boot. Partly due to the soot build up with running about at low speed and sitting in traffic, hence why a turbo diesel can fail the mot, be given an Italian tune up then pass. You could also run some decent fuel injector cleaner through it, Wynns do a professional product that you put in the fuel filter (don't forget the V50 has no lift pump and can be a pig to bleed) the. Follow it up with maintenance doses of the retail products. If you are ever nearer London Wag & Bennett are a good source of decent products at better prices than Halfords most of the time and are based not far from you in Rainham, if you have ever been to Elites for tyres they are just a bit further along the old A13 on the opposite side of the road, an old fashioned motor factors that sell to lots of the local motor trade. DPF's stop all such issues, but then they break your wallet every 75k, if they make it that far without issues. My 2008 Euro 4 has no such problems and was starting to smoke a bit more than normal till I gave it some of the Wynns professional stuff and then used Redex in every full for a few months. Now the smoke is reduced to the levels when I bought it. |

Hi guys I really appreciate the help its very refreshing after speaking to volvo dealer whom have been rubbish. I've tried injector cleaner and the smoke is all the time tbh Evan under slight acceleration it's really embarrassing. Mine is a 57 plate so does that not have a dpf? Plus what could the cause of hesitation when driving? I live near Colchester does any1 recommend a good diesel specialist. Cheers

There are guids on here if you have a look, I would recommend you clean out your EGR and throttle body to see how things go as this can be done for free.
Checking all pipes for rips/tears or splits )inc intercooler and pipes) would be worthwhile too. These can cause havoc with acceleration and it's amazing just how small it has to be to cause cause the problems. |

There is a Bosch specialist in Colchester as my Brother in law used them to finally sort out his Vectra 2.2 direct injected petrol recently as Vauxhall were being crap.
Don't know what the company name is, but he got the name from a Google search. |
