Cool

Thanks for the feedback peeps!

Yeah, I realise what I'm doing wrong now.

Like I said, I could quite easily see why they would code the actual head unit part, but not the CD mechanism itself.

I had a go at dismantling the original CD player part but after removing a lot of screws the actual CD transport was still wedged firmly in place under the large PCB.

I'll have another go but if anyone can point me in the right direction on which bits to remove in order to get to the CD mechanism that would be great.

Cheers,

J

As mentioned before, you need to open each unit and transfer the mechanical elements of the donor unit to your unit keeping the electronics from your old one.
In case useful to anyone, thanks to this thread, I did exactly as proposed in this thread for Sue's C30 single CD player, and it worked.

+ She bought a used head unit for £30 on ebay.
+ I plugged it in place of the original unit in case it just worked, but it timed out in a few seconds as already described.
+ So I swapped just the electro-mechanical CD deck retaining the original CD circuit board.
+ It took a few hours as I had to 'learn it all', not entirely trivial for someone who rarely messes with cars, and internals of in-car cd/radio heads.
+ The CD circuit board has a couple of multi-wire flat connectors for everything except the motor which controls the insert/eject mechanism.
* That motor has 3 metal tags soldered through the circuit board.
* Seasoned electronics skills necessary to deal with these motor tags.

+ Result, many thanks for this thread!
