Default V70 2003 d5 turbo problem

It behaves normally under firm acceleration until you back off the pedal then turbo howls loudly and triggers limp mode. What's going on pls?

I'm not that clued up but I'm guessing the vanes in the turbo might be sticking.
Mine goes quite well when I floor it for a few seconds, then it seams like something grabs and gets hold like a clutch and goes like stink,(mines an auto) after I push the pedal hard it seems like the clutch is slipping then it grabs and off it goes..I'm thinking that's my turbo vanes but not sure..I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along shortly

Hi look at all of the air pipes and intercooler for leaks/split pipes blown intercooler (oil under the intercooler)
run a pressure/smoke leak test,
if all is good then it may be the VNT turbo,
Dave
