Default Wing mirror defrost problem solved

About 5 years back or so I clipped a fencepost when reversing and damaged my passenger side wing mirror housing. The glass was intact and everything worked and just a case of major cosmetic damage to the outer casing. I replaced it with a used assembly from a wrecked car as the dealer price for a new one was eye watering. The old damaged one got put in a box and forgotten about.

Anyway, for all that time the defrost function never worked on the replacement mirror assembly. Defrost was almost never needed in Australia but with the XC60 in NZ for the last couple of years it's a handy thing to have and has been missed.

Tonight I got the original mirror glass which I had stashed away and checked it with a multimeter across the 2 connectors and it had a resistance of approx 7 ohms, which implies a heating power of around 20 watts according to my rudimentary electronics knowledge.

I then carefully pulled off the mirror glass on the car and the multimeter indicated that there was a break in the element, so I swapped over the glass and put the original one back on the car. Problem solved ! I just wish I'd got my act together and fixed this years back!
