I would like to say yes BUT, there's always a but, I want a diesel PHEV.
I need diesel for covering long distance for economy and electric for whizzing around built up areas when I get to where I am going. I want a family sized car V60 with a roof box is OK or cross country V60 for a little extra height. Petrol is an environmental disaster. 20 years ago we were told CO2 was destroying the planet, suddenly that has self healed and NOx is an issue when diesel and direct injection petrol have the same limits ??? I feel like I'm being hoodwinked. Pure BEV is not an option for me at the minute. If I want a 200-250 mile range I have a Focus RS which can be recharged in 5 minutes.

Would you buy another Volvo?
Well I just did.
After two years in a Skoda Yeti, which I bought after selling my V50T5 and much loved S60 2.0T, I'm now in a 5 year old XC60 D5 AWD R Design. I think it was inevitable I would end up in a Volvo again, I just didn't expect it to be quite this soon. |

As an older man I resemble that remark! 😄
However, looking at the age poll there would seem to be a good many owners in the mid thirties to mid forties range, hardly old men or women although that depends on your age MK? For me the xc60, shod with thick rubber rather than R-Design, is one of most comfortable cars I've driven.

So.......... how is a V70, S60 etc T5 an "old man's car"....oh, I know we are that designated insurance "trusted group" who guide upwards of 250 BHP, and still safely deliver the grandkids in one piece in the shortest possible time without attracting untoward attention.

No. The regular failures and high maintenance costs have spoiled the experience for me. Its one thing after another, and I've lost patience. It will be for sale as soon as I fix the current issue and hopefully before the next expensive item needs repairing!
The rising engine oil issue also worries me. My plan was to run this car for 4 years and get rid at around 200k miles, however even if I could fix all the issues I would be nervous that the engine would be worn much earlier. Having said that its the comfiest car I've ever owned, You can drive for hours in the somehow soft yet firm supportive magical seats on cruise and feel relaxed at the end of long journey. My other car is quite the opposite. Its quite sad, MY V70 when newer and working well would have been a superb car for its owner and certainly ticked my boxes, the unreliability issues are the killer.

Well i just bought my second Volvo, but the first one was a 1962 Amazon back in 1980. That Volvo was my first car and i never thought i would buy another one because of the boring reputation and it was my stepfathers preferred brand. When i was buying a new car this year Volvo S60 fitted with my demands. A diesel, sedan, auto, not too big and reasonably fast. I was looking for a C-class but they were too big and too expensive. BMW 3-series was another option but i don´t like the bad image that comes with that brand. Audi A4 was another but their autos has a bad reputation. So here i am with a car that has the same badge as my stepfathers cars. He had just Volvos his entire life. He is dead now, otherwise i couldn´t buy a Volvo.

I absolutely adored my V60 PHEV and for years, wish I had never sold it. But now, after following the market/forums keeping an eye out for another, I just do not think I dare anymore given so many problems owners are reporting and dealers+Volvo showing little sympathy. Gutted as with my bad back I have found nothing as good as the Volvo was for driving long distance... I just don't think it is a safe enough proposition to run out of warranty which is all I could afford now..
